{Philippians 2:1-4} Pause & Reflect Devotional

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Philippians 2:1-4 (NLT)

As humans we naturally think about ourselves first. When trying to solve a problem or just going about our daily business we naturally put our own priories first. At work, home, and in our relationships we focus our life around ourselves.

In this verse Paul challenges our natural tendencies and says to put others first. He goes so far to even say that we should think of others better then ourselves. This isn’t going happen over night. It will take time and a conscious effort.

Take the first step today, do one thing that puts someone in your life first. Maybe buy your co-worker lunch. Do a chore for your spouse before they ask. Mow your neighbors yard. Go out of your way to show that others are more important then you.
